Weller 12 Years

Weller 12 is the black-label Weller with a 12-year age statement. It shares the 90 Proof (45% ABV) bottling as the Special Reserve, but the extra aging on this release brings out more of a deep caramel color and rich oaky, vanilla palate. The lower proof and dozen years in a barrel makes for a deliciously creamy and easy drinker. A personal favorite of mine.
As part of the wheated bourbon family, W.L. Weller 12 Year is aged far longer than most wheated bourbons. This offering is a smooth, easy-going and balanced offering with a beautiful deep bronze color.

Detailed Description
“Wheated bourbon” is bourbon with wheat as the predominant grain in the mash bill after corn. Traditionally, rye takes that second billing. This 12 year-old whiskey is referred to by some as the “poor man’s Pappy”. With the exception of the 23 Year Pappy Van Winkle which still has some Stitzel-Weller juice in it, all Pappy and Weller bourbons use the Buffalo Trace wheated mash bill. The main difference will be in the barrel management.
WL Weller 12 Year Old Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: The nose and flavor profile shows notes such as vanilla, orange peel, and chocolate all loaded up with warming baking spices.
Palate: The proof helps to tighten up the whiskey and is less cloying as a result. Is pecan maple syrup a thing? Because if it is not, it should be. This whiskey seems to show this in spades. The whiskey warms in your throat and belly, so the only thing missing really is a fresh plate of flapjacks.
Finish: Long, oaky, and intensely smooth finish.
